[Client Update] Update addressing issues with frequent crashes

Date Sep 15, 2017 Views 11,111

Hello Shot Online Community!

We are aware that the issue of frequent crashes is a source of constant negative feelings towards the game and us, the team that runs it and the game developers.

We would like to share a few words from our head developer:

Hello Shot Online Community,

I am the game development manager for Shot Online and would like to sincerely apologize for these client crash issues and briefly explain what we are currently working on here in the developement team to combat these crashes.

Our team has been working tirelessly to find the cause and fix it for good.

Progress

We are trying to adjust the current game code to optimize memory usage. The whole fixing process was divided into several stages, as very complex changes can lead to unforeseen instabilities.

Stage 1 comprised of optimization of memory usage, and improvements to the quest system.

Stage 2 concentrated on memory optimizations in areas related to graphics, rendering and display.

Stage 3 related to reworking the item system.

Midway through the work, we found that we initially misunderstood the source of the crashes. Originally, we assumed that the crashes were caused by an error in the network environment (Socket Error 10053) which manifested to users as error 1046, and we concentrated our efforts on fixing that. In the process, we discovered that the error itself was caused by issues with memory usage. We then changed the direction of our efforts to optimize memory usage first.
After the fix, the issue might still occur, but our tests show that the frequency has been greatly reduced.

We will continue to work on fixing the issue entirely.

Again, I sincerely apologize for all problems and thank you for your patience.

We will continue to work on client stability and will keep you updated.

With that, we are happy to announce that the first fixes will be implemented on Monday, September 18th, 2017!

There is no server downtime planned; the fix will be strictly a client patch – when it goes live, simply close the game and patch the client. As always, we advise that you add the game folder to your anti-virus software's whitelist, or disable your anti-virus for the duration of the patch to avoid any issues.
